Episode 6 - Jesus, covenants, and our redemption
In this episode Cam and Dave discuss the OT covenants between God and his people, what Jesus has to do with those covenants, and what our subsequent redemption means for us today.
Some key points in this episode include:
”A better covenant with better promises (8.6) based on a better sacrifice (9.23) offer by a better high priest in a better sanctuary (7.26-8.6, 9.11, 13-14), and guaranteeing a better hope than the former version of the covenant ever made explicit, that is, endless glory with God in a better country, that is, a heavenly one.
Packer, Concise Theology, pg 105
The fulfillment of the old covenant in Jesus matters because it opens the doors of God’s Kingdom to the Gentiles!! See Revelation 7.9–10:
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
